Gasthaus Traube, Buchs SG
In the heart of Buchs, Gasthaus Traube blends historical character with contemporary design. Two buildings are connected by a multifaceted garden space.
Gasthaus Traube combines the tradition of an established house with a clear, contemporary design. Scandinavian simplicity meets carefully curated unique pieces. Materials and finishes are thoughtfully selected, creating a serene atmosphere. The rooms feel understated yet personal. The heart of the house is the garden, which connects the two buildings. Different areas are created through planting, water, and changes in elevation. A wildflower garden, shady spots under trees, a water courtyard, and a platform over the pond structure the grounds. Fountains and water features bring movement to the stillness. The garden is not merely an accessory, but a distinct space in its own right.
Within this setting, two figures by Rosi Weiss are displayed. The artist works with fallen and storm-damaged wood. She uses a chainsaw to sculpt characters from it. Saw marks, cracks, and natural structures remain visible. The material is not smoothed, but its inherent character is preserved. Body posture, color, and material shape the expression. After shaping, Rosi Weiss paints the sculptures with acrylic paints. Color enhances their presence and lends the figures a unique identity. Ideas, experience, and the unexpected converge in the creative process.
In the garden, the figures encounter guests at eye level and create a quiet space for contemplation.
