Dance of Life I
Between the mundane and the magical: Alois Hermann transforms fleeting moments of encounter into expressive sculptures.
The 'Couples' series was created during an extended period of work. Alois Hermann was inspired by subtle moments of encounter in the everyday lives of couples. These might seem insignificant, but for him, they are magical moments of happiness, like images that linger in the soul. To give form to a moment experienced as a gift is, for him, magic.
Nevertheless, this creative work with a chainsaw is always a challenge for Alois Hermann. With the double figures, the difficulty lies in carving two figures from a single piece of wood.
For the creation of the figures, he employs his skill and many years of experience with the chainsaw, while simultaneously surrendering to a higher power that gives expression to his sculptures and brings them to life. For him, a figure is complete when it looks back at him.
These wooden sculptures serve as templates for the bronze casts. Through this transformation process – their reshaping into bronze – the organic material wood is endowed with virtually unlimited longevity. This creates something very precious.
If Alois Hermann can touch people at the core of their humanity with his creative expression, that is a great gift for him.

Der Bildhauer Alois Hermann arbeitet viel mit Holz. Seine Arbeiten entstehen aus dem direkten Kontakt mit Form, Schnitt und Oberfläche.
