Hotel Villa Carona, Carona-Lugano

Hotel Villa Carona is located in a historic patrician house in the village of Carona. Just a few minutes from Lugano, it offers views of the Ticino mountains. Carona has long been considered an artists' village. The tranquility and expansive landscape define the area. Hermann Hesse also stayed here. The two-part garden surrounds the house, creating transitions between inside and outside. Plants, paths, and lounging areas form a sheltered space. The scenery changes with every season.

Two works by Alois Hermann are situated in this environment. Alois Hermann is a freelance artist who has primarily worked with wood since the 1980s. His sculptures are created through a direct, physical process, often using a chainsaw, and move between figuration and abstraction, with cuts and surfaces deliberately remaining visible. However, Alois Hermann also has bronze casts made from his wooden sculptures, as seen here in the garden of Villa Carona, where two bronze double figures are on display.

At Villa Carona, Mediterranean landscape, historic architecture, and contemporary practice converge. The art blends seamlessly into the existing environment, creating space for individual interpretation.
