North of Frauenfeld in Thurgau lies Kartause Ittingen. Even long after its original use, the former monastery complex, with its venerable walls, remains committed to the values lived by the monks of that time: hospitality, care, culture, and above all, self-sufficiency are part of the hotel's credo.
Kartause Ittingen is bordered by a historic garden, whose operators have been dedicated to rose cultivation since the Middle Ages. From this rich wealth of experience, the largest collection of historic rose varieties in Switzerland has been created to date: around 250 different varieties and over 1,000 specimens bloom in every conceivable color.
At Kartause Ittingen, the focus is on sustainably and locally produced food. Following the practiced zero-kilometer philosophy, all ingredients used in the kitchen are either grown in their own vegetable and herb garden or sourced from the immediate region. Thus, guests enjoy food that tastes delicious and a garden that delights the eye.
In collaboration with Hortiplus, a seed variety garden has also been established with the aim of harvesting seeds from valuable cultivated plants, replanting them, and raising awareness for less common and vanished varieties. This is an important contribution to the preservation of biodiversity and, not least, aligns with current nutritional and climate trends.
