Grandhotel Giessbach - Garten Hotels Schweiz

Grandhotel Giessbach, Brienz

Brienz

Above Lake Brienz, the Grandhotel Giessbach is situated right next to the Giessbach Falls. Nature, history, and garden culture define this unique place.

The Grandhotel Giessbach opened in 1875 and is one of the early testaments to Swiss tourism. The Belle Époque building stands elevated above Lake Brienz, surrounded by forest, water, and expansive views. The historic funicular railway still connects the lake and the hotel today. The complex is part of the Giessbach Nature Park and is supported by the "Giessbach to the Swiss People" foundation, which saved the building from demolition. The hotel includes a park with over 100 historic ornamental plants and vegetable varieties. The park grounds were renovated in 2014, and the historic vegetable garden was brought back into use starting in 2019. The garden's maintenance connects to the history of the house and links it with a contemporary responsibility for nature and cultural heritage.

Surrounded by the park, a work by Karin Brenn is displayed here. Her artistic development led her from painting to sculpture. Since 2010, she has been working three-dimensionally, including with a chainsaw. Body forms, movement, and expression are central to her work. The works emerge from inner visions and immediate impulses, seeking their own presence in space.

At the Grandhotel Giessbach, original natural power, cultivated garden landscapes, and contemporary art converge. The works sensitively integrate into their surroundings and open up new perspectives on landscape and history.
