The discrete form of time
The theme of the sculpture series is mutually penetrating (hollow) bodies: tetrahedron, sphere, cone, and cuboid. These correspond analogously to the four elements of fire, water, air, and earth – and these, in turn, to energy, emotions, mind, and matter.
The sculptures appear to be composed of individual parts, but are made from a single monolithic piece, crafted from a tree trunk. The monolithic nature of the sculptures indicates that while the elements emerge from each other, they are interdependent and interact with one another – inextricably interwoven, a woven reality.
«The Discrete Form of Time»
Even as we speak, already has fled
envious time:
seize this day, never trust the morrow! (Horace)
yet the light speaks:
my place is placeless
my time is timeless.

«Fire and Water»
Like the candle that weeps:
who knows, does its tear come from the fire's closeness
or from separation from the honey? (Rumi)

«The Discrete Form of Space»
Intertwined houses in interwoven worlds,
interpenetrating spaces in overlapping universes,
interwoven reality.
Max Roth

Max Roth's monolithic wooden sculptures explore various spaces, forms, and their perception.
