In certain places, time feels different than usual. Deeper, more precious, and more intense. One such place is the Grandhotel Giessbach on Lake Brienz.
The historic Belle Époque hotel
A house steeped in history, a place of strength and tranquility, nestled in the 22-hectare nature park and captivated by the vibrant Giessbach waterfall. The nostalgic 4-star hotel features 75 individual rooms and suites, furnished with late 19th-century furniture. The historic rooms, the library, and the various dining and banqueting halls invite guests to slow down, take a breath, and indulge. Accompanied by a diverse culinary offering, the unique view of the depths of Lake Brienz, and a dip in the chemical-free natural swimming pool, a stay at the Grandhotel becomes an unforgettable experience.

An unprecedented collective effort
To save the historically valuable Grandhotel from demolition, the non-profit Giessbach Foundation was launched in 1983 by the famous animal and environmental activist Franz Weber. Over 80,000 people, together with Franz Weber and the foundation, participated in an unprecedented rescue operation at that time, so that this beautiful piece of homeland above Lake Brienz could be preserved as a common heritage for the Swiss people. To continue maintaining the beautiful nature park and its facilities, Hotel Giessbach repeatedly relies on support through donations, a Giessbach patronage, a gift, or concrete assistance.

Sustainability as a Calling
Sustainability is a passionate calling for the entire Giessbach estate. In 2019, work began to revive the historic vegetable garden from 1987. Since then, over 100 organic vegetable and Pro Specie Rara varieties have flourished there. Starting this year, the restaurants will be supplied as much as possible with vegetables, herbs, honey, and veal from the estate's own park. In the "Le Tapis Rouge" restaurant's atelier kitchen, in-house production and local sourcing are paramount and have been awarded 14 Gault Millau points. This year, head chef Barbara Blaser was named by Gault Millau among the TOP 10 "Women in the Kitchen to Remember".
