Renata Schalcher's sculptures and installations are inspired by Japanese calligraphy, meditation, and Far Eastern philosophy. Line, movement, and space define her works.
Renata Schalcher was born in Zurich in 1951 and lives and works in Küsnacht and Avers. She studied in the metal class at the Zurich University of the Arts and expanded her practice through international experiences. Since the 1980s, she has regularly exhibited her work both in Switzerland and abroad. A significant reference point in her work is Japanese calligraphy, which she has explored for many years. Her focus on line, rhythm, and emptiness shapes her approach to form and space. Her works are created using various materials and scales, ranging from objects to sculptures in public spaces.
