Hotel Palazzo Salis, Soglio
Palazzo Salis is situated at an altitude of 1090 meters in the heart of the village of Soglio. The historic building and its picturesque garden bear witness to centuries of history.
Palazzo Salis was built in the 17th century and has been run as a hotel for over 140 years. The house is located in the village of Soglio in Val Bregaglia, surrounded by mountain scenery and expansive views. The rooms retain their historic structure while integrating contemporary use. A stay here is characterized by tranquility, elevation, and a sense of distance from everyday life. The garden at the rear of the property forms a distinct space. Geometrically laid out in the 18th century, it was expanded in the 19th century with groups of trees. A sequoia tree is among these later additions. The garden is maintained with an awareness of its history.
In this context, an installation by Renata Schalcher is featured. The artist studied in Zurich and has been exploring questions of line, rhythm, and emptiness for many years. A key reference point in her work is Japanese calligraphy. This attention to negative space and movement shapes her approach to form and space.
At Palazzo Salis, her work encounters the historic structure of the house and the clear order of the garden. Material, line, and space relate to the architecture and the landscape. This creates a dialogue between past and present, allowing for quiet contemplation.
