Etienne Krähenbühl is a prominent sculptor, sound sculptor, and draftsman, known for his fascinating metal sculptures.
Born in Vevey in 1953, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne. After a stay in Paris and Barcelona, he dedicated himself to sculpture and became interested in the traces of time in materials.
Since the mid-1970s, Etienne Krähenbühl has presented his works in numerous solo and group exhibitions, particularly in Switzerland, Europe, Lebanon, Turkey, India, China, Japan, the USA, Kazakhstan... His numerous accolades include the Fondation Edouard Maurice Sandoz Prize, awarded to him in 2009, the 1st Prize at the Sculpture Biennale in Astana, Kazakhstan, and the Sound Sculpture Prize in Lari, Tuscany, in 2023.
The artist plays with the physical properties of materials. He creates works in which sound, movement, and the contrast between monumentality and fragility play a central role. “As a result of a deep understanding of the expressive possibilities of material, Etienne Krähenbühl’s sculptures offer us a new and fascinating reflection on ourselves and our environment” (Joan-Francesc Ainaud).
