Adrian Bütikofer explores the interplay between people and their environment. For over 25 years, this has generated images that he seeks to translate into three-dimensional forms. He works primarily with wood, but is also adept with other materials. Adrian Bütikofer lives and works in Zurich.
His artistic journey began in 1980 with his first intensive encounters within the circles of internationally renowned iron sculptors around Bern. The passion ignited within him drove him to seek his own language in visual art. His continuous self-taught development led him to become an independent visual artist in 1998. Numerous exhibitions and art symposia both at home and abroad, as well as various competition wins, have led to the creation and display of many, sometimes monumental, artworks. All his works reflect a deep engagement with the tightrope walk between one's own strength and one's own fragility.
Tania di Brita, art historian and curator, summarizes his work with the following words:
Bütikofer's works create connections between space and humanity, past and present, material and imagination, physical presence and spiritual impulse. Perhaps they bring us closer to what we have long carried within ourselves.
