Schloss Wartegg, Rorschacherberg
Wartegg Castle is situated amidst extensive parkland, between Lake Constance and the foothills of the Alpstein mountains.
Wartegg Castle has been surrounded by an English park for over 150 years. Lime trees, plane trees, and chestnut trees characterize the grounds and offer views towards Lake Constance. Water features run through the property. The garden, with its own vegetable and herb cultivation, is managed according to Demeter guidelines and is closely linked to the castle's kitchen. The castle's history is palpable. Empress Zita herself stayed here. The estate combines historical substance with a clear contemporary feel. Paths through the park lead past flowerbeds, meadows, and open spaces. The place thrives on its organic structure and its attention to detail.
Christoph Rihs' work is presented in this context. The artist studied fine arts and architecture and works in the fields of sculpture, object art, installation, and site-specific practice. Form, structure, and perception are central to his work. His works move between precise construction and poetic openness. His works emerge from reflections on space, time, and cultural reference systems, and respond sensitively to their specific location. At Wartegg Castle, they encounter an environment that is itself shaped by structure and history. This creates a dialogue between the park, architecture, and artistic intervention, leaving room for personal observations.
