Built in 1910, the Parkhotel Gunten is situated directly on the shores of Lake Thun. A spacious park with old trees surrounds the building and extends to the water's edge. Swimming access, a sunbathing lawn, and a boathouse create seamless transitions between architecture and landscape. The view opens up across the lake towards the mountains. The hotel blends historical character with a clear contemporary feel. Hospitality is evident in the communal areas, the restaurant, and the small wellness area in the boathouse with direct lake access. Indoors and outdoors are in constant dialogue. Water, light, and weather constantly change the perception of the place.
The artistic duo maboart, consisting of Ursula Bohren and Claudio Magoni, understands art as an open process. Their practice is interdisciplinary, combining visual arts, conceptual work, poetry, and contemporary witness accounts. Their works emerge from research, biographical traces, and societal narratives. At Lake Thun, their works respond sensitively to the landscape and its history. The creative process remains visible. Fragmentary and unfinished elements are embraced. This creates spaces for contemplation that connect with the view across the water and the expanse of the park. The art integrates into the rhythm of the place, fostering unique perceptions.
