Ships on Stilts I-III
Adrian Künzi showcases several wooden ship sculptures at the Parkhotel Brenscino in Brissago.
The ships stand on precarious stilts; they are not perfectly stable – they battle gravity. His ships are crafted from oak wood, carved with a chainsaw as a direct, physical tool. The heavy, resistant wood contrasts with the fragile construction – an interplay between mass and apparent weightlessness. The ships are elevated, detached from the ground, as if they are already embarking on a journey.
Adrian Künzi is fascinated by lightness: visual, structural, and symbolic. The stilts not only bear weight but also convey the idea of uncertainty and balance. Simultaneously, the ships embark on a journey into myth, serving as a vessel between worlds, between reality and imagination, between departure and uncertainty.
