For the "Farmer's Wife with Cow" project, Karin Brenn required large larch square timbers. Ten pieces, each measuring 40 x 45 x 160 cm, formed a 225 x 80 x 160 cm block, from which she was able to carve the life-sized cow with a chainsaw. Sketches from various angles, anatomical studies, and the creation of a model were necessary to achieve the most lifelike result possible. Once the cow was complete, she sanded the wood.
The farmer's wife was carved from an approximately 50 x 170 cm larch trunk using a chainsaw. For this sculpture, Karin Brenn made neither sketches nor models, but instead let herself be guided solely by intuition. This one was also sanded upon completion.
The farmer's wife and cow were taken to an art foundry in Mendrisio. Both received a cream-like coating. A silicone negative was created, into which a wax positive was then cast. Karin Brenn was able to add or modify details on this wax positive. Subsequently, both models were ready for casting. Finally, the patina was applied. It was an incredible experience.
