The sculptures of Kurt Laurenz Metzler (1941-2024) address urban situations, transforming them into minimalist, striking forms.
Kurt Laurenz Metzler was born in Balgach in 1941 and studied at the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts. From the late 1960s, he developed a distinctive sculptural language focusing on the human figure. He became known for his stylized urban figures, which he created using materials such as bronze, iron, aluminum, stone, or polyester. His works are intended for public spaces and engage with urban situations. Metzler combined everyday observation with social awareness and formal clarity. He lived and worked between Zurich and Iesa near Siena, where he established his own sculpture park.
